Atlas Cafe

Being a new New Yorker, I always thought it was pointless to go to the same restaurant twice but whenever I have a craving for something vegan or organic I always end up at Atlas Cafe and I have never once been disappointed. Atlas has been a destination for me even before I moved here. It was one of the first cafes I’ve been to when I was a tourist and now that I am engrained in the life here, it’s the only the cafe I keep going back to over and over again!

Atlas is a wonderful hole-in-the-wall spot to visit, especially in the early or late Summer months. I love sitting on the bench outside enjoying a vegan cookie and a latte while I watch the passers-by on 2nd Ave. While Atlas maybe not be the most romantic spot to go on a date, it’s cute and cozy atmosphere on the inside will have you rubbing shoulders and knees with your sweetheart and the summer breeze on the outside will stir a bit of romance into your afternoon!

Macaron Cafe

When was the last time you sat at a cafe and sank your teeth into the velvety smoothness of a french macaroon? Macaron Cafe is one of the sweetest spots for indulgences in Manhattan! In addition to yummy macaroons, Macaron Cafe offers a wide variety of cafe items to choose from their menu. The ambience is relaxing and welcoming and the sweet treats are amazing! This is a perfect spot for a brunch date!

From the bar: Rhubarb Mezcalarita

Ahhh! Very yummmy!!!

I first tasted Mezcal when we were living in New York City a few years ago. We were fortunate enough to indulge in an incredible meal at Wylie Dufresne’s, WD-50, but because our table wasn’t ready on time, we were left in the entertainment of the talented mixologist – and my taste buds would forever be opened to the infinite potential of the cocktail. Up until then, I stayed very close to the mixed spirits that were familiar to me – cranberry vodkas, margaritas, gin & tonics, the occasional white Russian at the bowling alley (yes, the Dude would abide). Nothing fancy. But when my lips tasted the drink that was placed in front of me, dubbed “Que Pasa Calabaza”, my mind was blown. Cocoa nib infused mezcal danced around with yuzu, liquified squash and black salt. It was so good that I ordered another….and then another. That was fall, so…

If you can make it there, you’ll make it anywhere. You just might not realize how good looking you are…

Dating in NYC can be challenging! Learning to love yourself makes it a lot easier!

About 2 years ago, when I was skinny (and didn’t know it) my mom came to visit me in New York City. When she saw me her first reaction was “You’re so skinny!” And not in a you’re so beautiful way. In a should I be concerned for your health? way.

I, of course, scoffed. I was not skinny. I was thin, certainly. But not terribly so. I was regular. She was just used to me being about 10 lbs heavier.

Later, as we were standing in front of the restaurant waiting for my stepfather to join us after parking the car, my mom watched a woman walk by. She made a funny face when the woman was past and said something like, “Oh. Does everybody here just look like you?”

I think my response was something like, “Sorta. It’s New York City.”

I am bringing this up because until…

Babycakes NYC!

Last week my friend and I ended up at babycakes NYC after ditching an office happy hour. We were both craving something sweet and being that my friend is vegan, Babycakes was a no brainer decision! So we trotted over to the bakery and we amazed by the amount of vegan and gluten-free options they offer! In addition to the bakery, there is also an adorable dining area, perfect for an afternoon date!

We loaded up on donuts, cupcakes and cookies and we were so pleased by how yummy these treats were! Babycakes is a spot we will definitely be going to again!

Happy Eating!

Hospitality and Almond Joy Macaroons{Naturally Gluten Free}

Sounds quite yummy to make!

Sweet And Crumby

These sweet, tender and darkly chocolate macaroons were first served to me by a friend’s friend; someone who was not expecting us to stop by and whom had just literally driven up to find us hanging outside her house. Instead of visiting with us on her lawn, like I would have done back in the day, she invited us in and began to just whip up a batch of these addicting little cookies at the spur of the moment. Minutes later we were all sitting on her sofa, inhaling the heavenly aromas and laughing, and not ten minutes after that we were sipping on her husband’s famous Mandarin Orange martinis and munching on melt-in-your-mouth macaroons.
